What is Orth K?

Orthokeratology is a reversible, non-surgical procedure that uses a contact lens to gently reshape the thin front surface of the eye (called the cornea) as you sleep. This procedure may eliminate the need for glasses or daytime contact lenses to correct vision.

In general, you will start to see some improvement within the first days of treatment. Most patients should reach full correction within 1-2 weeks, and their vision stabilizes within another 1-2 weeks. However, everyone’s eyes are different, so your response could be faster or slower than average.

We recommend wearing your lenses for a minimum of 7-8 hours every night for the best results. If you sleep in the lenses for less time, you may not get as much corneal shape change and the vision clarity may fade throughout the day. Don’t worry though; resuming normal wear time will easily restore your vision and the treatment effect.

Ortho K in our office:

Our office uses the company Euclid for our Ortho K lenses and charges $1,500 total for the fitting process and lenses. The process starts with a $90 consultation.  During the consultation, we take all necessary measurements to establish an axial length (length of the eye from front to back) baseline and submit for your custom-fit lenses. If you decide to proceed with ordering the lenses, a $500 deposit is required.

Your next visit will be for insertion and removal training of the Ortho K lenses – this is different from standard contact lens I & R since Ortho K requires hard contact lenses. This visit is included in the initial consultation fee. We will then have a series of follow-up appointments to check measurements and overall fit of the Ortho K lenses – in some cases, ortho k lenses may need to be reordered if the current fit is not giving the desired results.

If you decide to discontinue the process at any time, you will be refunded $1,410 for the lenses but not the consultation fee.
